How does a brand make you feel?

LUCKY ME! Last week on a beautiful crisp autumnal day I was fortunate enough to go to a Harvest experience at a local vineyard in West Sussex. A spot of grape picking, lunch and wine tasting - don’t mind if I do.

For many reasons this makes me happy....being outdoors, freshly grown products (especially ones that produce fine tasting sparkling wine) beautiful architecture in a stunning location, an ice cold glass to pour their delicious, crisp blanc du blanc into.

So what’s important about this? It’s the brand experience.

Having worked in branding for nearly 20 years you can imagine this subject is close to my heart. Often a brand is mistaken for ‘just a logo’ and although this is crucial it is only part of the picture. As is the packaging, the structure, the colours, the font, the styling, and the marketing. These are all essential to the brand impact. But it’s OH so much more.

This day made me reflect and revisit what brings a brand to life. It’s the story and the emotional connection. What stays with you? What do you remember?

We were met by the charasmatic and engaging founders, with an enchanting background story. Understanding their journey really helped me engage more with their brand. Their resilience and grafting enabled the transition from a lettuce farm to now a beautiful boutique family run vineyard which helped build an emotional connection. What was obvious at every moment was their passion and belief behind the product.

My take outs: a beautiful location, authentic engaging storytelling, a greater knowledge of the process. An unforgettable experience, as well as a fantastic product. It’s all of these that create a memorable brand.
